Haden orbed into Downtown Los Angeles. Well...what was left of it. There was rubble everywhere and beneath all of it, bodies...too many, countless, unidentified, unmoved bodies and all he could think then was about the hundreds of families, scared, and in tears over their missing relative who was most likely dead given all that happened. Downtown was one of the places that was hit the worse. Buildings were brought down from their tall, erect stance, cars were destroyed, nearly everything in sight were just remnants of what previous was. It was a sad sight, a horrible, heart-twisting sight and he knew that this was just the least of it...for now. He took a breath then looked up at the sky. It was beautiful. Untouched, unspoiled, peaceful and a nice shade of blue. Compare that to the earth now...not much to smile about.

Keriann was in the midst of the rubble. She knew what was happening, and although she bare not speak of it, Keriann knew that this was not a good thing for anyone, this earth was in trouble. She was stepping over bodies, her heart trembling at the greusome sights of what used to be, what used to be a good place. A blue business suit graced her body, a black boots covered her feet and white gloves and a white mask covered her hands and mouth respectively. Keriann looked around aimlessly, only to see more and more what she had seen since she first arrived, until she looked and saw a man she thought she would never see again, Haden Mathias. She stopped dead in her tracks, and stared across at him, she was at a loss for words, and so her staring eyes spoke volumes.

Haden looked down and beneath the thick stone that he was about to step across he saw a small hand with these adorable fingers covered in stretches, and bruises and dust. He orbed the slab of stone away and beneath it, laid the body of a baby probably around a year old. he got down on his knees and picked up the lifeless innocent into his arms and held it as if it was still alive, just sleeping. His face was so still. Haden could tell that this baby boy was going to be handsome one day, probably one to get all the girls. He smiled, but it went as quickly as it had come. He looked down and saw an arm sticking out, and on it's wrist was a bracelet, so it belonged to a woman, the rest of her buried somewhere, then he noticed the crushed baby bottle not far from her fingers and where the baby laid...the mother. He sighed so heavily that he felt like he just expelled all the air inside of him. Then he got to his feet, the baby still in his arms. One day the mother was going to be buried, but now...her son would be. He was about to head back the way he had come when he caught sight of a woman standing not far off, looking his way. She was wearing something corporate and she wore a health precautionary mask. He looked over at her for a moment, then he turned and made his way over to her. Whoever this was, was probably doing something important here.

Keriann was still statute in her stance. She watched the man carefully as he picked up the male child and examined it, and then doing similar to the other lifeless body who was unfortunately under the huge stone that was once a store. The thoughts of her sitting back at the University some years ago had rushed to her as the man she was seeing was speaking of his child, and now he was here, and was using magic right before her. She couldn't believe what she was seeing, as though she was in another one of those dreams where she was swept away from beneath the death grips of another Evil Queen. That threat slowly escaping her as she noticed the man move closer and closer towards her.
She wondered, why is it that he hadnt explained such details upon their first meeting, and where exactly was this child he had spoken of so dearly to her. She sighed, not wanting to be the one to bring up such thoughts, and become selfish when hundreds were dead on this very field. She broke her gaze, looking to her side at another dead body, who was probably trying to escape the crumbling blocks. Tears came to her eyes, she didnt know what it was for, if it was for that man or for herself, her past that was coming back to hunt her. She waited.

Haden stopped right before her, and only then did he realize that it was Keriann. He smiled slightly, but he realized he didn't have anything to smile about, and it again faded. With the child in his hand he raised his other hand and puller her mask from her face. "Hi." He said to her. "It's...it's been a while. I'd like to say I missed you." he said, he was trying to be funny, but in a time like this, funny was just not cool, it sucked...this whole thing sucked and he just wished it never happened. "How've you been? He asked her, looking down to the baby then to her. He looked at her teary eyes and the tears that flowed down from them, and he sudden;y felt that emotion that she was experiencing. "Hey...I know it's hard right now...but it'll get better, it will. These people, they're going to a better place, every one of these innocents. So um- please don't cry."

Keriann turned to see him. He looked so different from the time she saw him sitting near the pond at the University. She was taken aback upon noticing that the charm of his voice was still there, but she tried to ignore it, not wanting to fall for someone again, particularly in a time when her career needed her most. "Yes, it has been awhile." She stated simply, removing the glove from her hands and shoving it into her pockets, wiping away her full eyes, "It's cool. I mean, they are all innocents, right?" She questioned, offering a sigh and then looking down at the child that he held. "Always have been that father figure, right?" She forced a small laugh, looking away from him.

"Yeah...it's just me I guess, having one of my own, stubborn as hell, but it's a thing she gets from me." He said, his voice getting slightly lower. The sun shone a bit bright and he looked down and caught her face. Though she was older, age made her even more stunning. Her features were still soft and beautiful and her eyes, her eyes still captivated him. "Wou-would you walk with me please...to the park just up ahead? It's not far." He asked her, he just wanted a bit of company, and her company was something different, something special. "I just want to bury him."

"I'll do that only Haden." She said swiftly. For some reason, she had sensed that he was not the same guy she met in the University almost a decade a go. He seemed different, although his speech was still soft and convincing. She didnt know, he awoke something in her that she had always kept hidden, and it was that reason that she decided to join his company.

As they walked, there was a deathly silence between them. He wanted to say something to her, anything that could get them talking, but in his head, he was going over what not to say because it was offensive, or because it was inappropriate or it was just plain stupid. he kept the child close to him, holding him to keep him from falling, holding in a manner that'd keep a live child asleep. "What've you been up to...haven't seen you since...since that night at the University...funny how quick things change...it's like, you disappeared off the face of the earth or something." He said, going quiet again. "Life treating you ok?"

Her steps were somewhat shaky and her high heeled boots were not the cause. She walked and she realized that the silence between them was thick, her mind was running wild with the questions she wanted to ask. "Yes, I am a detective afterall." She stated with a small smile, looking ahead as they walked.. She knew the tension between them would have to be released soon, and that the burning questions she wanted to ask would soon...."Are you a witch?"....slip out.

Haden stopped immediately. He didn't know if he should be saying things like that, seeing as for the years he's been a witch, it's been forbidden to expose magic, but due to the recent occurrences, he felt like there was nothing that'd stop him... "Yeah...I'm a witch. Part witch...part whitelighter actually. But um- yeah." He was going to say some crap like "I though you knew." but that'd be stupid. He barely revealed anything to her when they met, and he hasn't seen her since, so, it'd be safe to say she's clueless about him. "Does that scare you...does that make you look at me differently? Because from what I know...some of you detectives have been looking for us...witches I mean. Guess you found one." He asked, as he resumed walking, keeping his eyes forward, trying to stop himself from looking at her.

Keriann's head dropped. Although she herself was a full blown witch, she figured it was best to leave that part of her secret, as she barely used magic after she was nearly killed on a battle on Alcatraz. She could barely remember anything thereafter, except for some woman giving her some medicine, a gypsy she thought. It was just to vague for her, and so she didnt even want to go back to that time. "No, no it doesnt." She said simply, continuing the walk as the man stood still. "I mean, you obviously are a good witch since you are part whitelighter....." She said as she thought aloud.

"Yeah I guess...but I never said I was a good witch, nor did I say that whitelighters were good beings..." Haden pointed out. He could have accused her of knowing more than she may be letting on, but it wasn't his place. This was a time for any secrets, she had hers, he had his...his shameful secrets. He looked down at the boy once again, and just like the other times, he fought off a raging anger and sadness. "Can't believe things got this bad."

Keriann stopped so that she looked back at the child that was in his hands. It was so adorable, but yet it was gone, gone from this tarnished world. Maybe it was the best thing for the child either way. She sighed, "Yeah, wish I could've done more." She said as she switched the topic from magic, not wanting to go too into details. "Things like this happen I guess."

"No...things like this don't happen, they shouldn't happen." He said abruptly, because that was one thing he was sure of. This shouldn't have happened. Measures should have been put in place to prevent this from happening, it's not like new generation witches have infinite knowledge, it's not like they know of the past and anything that would definitely be beyond their knowledge. The walked in silence for a bit until they reached the park. He led her in and went over by a nice place to bury him. It was shaded by a tree, the grass had been trimmed and it was clean, no litter or anything like that. He took off his jacket and wrapped the boy in it, looking at his handsome face one more time before he covered his face. He held his hand to the foreground and orbed a mound of dirt to the side, leaving a good enough sized pit. He bent down and placed him inside, then...he just knelt there, looking at the body wrapped up in his favourite shirt, but the shirt wasn't the issue...he sighed, then, manually. He started to shovel the dirt into the little grave, covering the boy. He patted the dirt to keep it nice and smooth then he got to his feet and looked over to Keri. "What now? Are you coming with me?"
