Five Hours Earlier…
Four Hours Earlier…
One Hour Earlier…
This day had to be perfect. It had to be. He had it disguised as just some opening of his new restaurant, an establishment that belonged to the family he looked forward to creating with Keri but in truth, this evening’s even was the evening he was going to propose to Keriann for the last time and simultaneously host the event where they would get the opportunity to share with friends, family and loved ones, the love that had finally bonded them together with something much, much stronger than concrete. Dressed in nothing but a pair of old blue jeans, a white hooded sweat shirt and a pair of white socks, he walked about the restaurant which was just amazingly busy; just bustling with activity as the cooks in the back made haste to prepare a once in a lifetime menu that would impress the Queen Mother on many levels, the waitresses and waiters alone with other auxiliary staff plus a few temporary hands were in the front, setting up the restaurant in a unique way that would remain, once again, one of a kind and the same went for the breathtaking dining area.
“Is everything to your liking sir?”
Haden turned and looked at the individual he appointed as the restaurant’s manager, a young man, say about 26 years of age but with much experience. He came highly recommended and aside from the fact that his resume was just flooring, the kid needed a job after the last one left him in a less than desirable position, occupation wise. “Yes, yes…Jacob. I just hope she’ll love it as much as I do…and I really do.” He said once he tore his eyes from the room. “Um…you handle things here, I have got to go and get everything in place, like sending the letter to Keri’s hotel room. Ok…I’m off.” Haden said, heading to the door, slipping his feet into his sneakers and heading out the door toward his car.
Four Hours Earlier…
His car pulled up in the parking garage of the Empirium Hotel, stepped out and headed for the doors that escorted him into the five-star masterpiece. Standing a little ways from the door, he opened the envelope her card in his hand and took out the hand-written letter and read through it for the second time since writing it:Dear Keri,
I hope you are enjoying you room and I apologize for being a bit secretive with you but I promise it’s nothing, I just wanted to surprise you with something that I am proud of. I am having the opening of a restaurant that you and I will own together, it will be amazing and naturally, I wanted you here with me for this event. It is kicking off this evening at 7pm, and dress as drop-dead gorgeous like you always do. Love you.
Haden.
“Good evening sir…can I…help you?” Came a voice and it was dripping with hauteur.
Looking up he looked upon a man in his sixties, slim, dressed rather nicely for a hotel employee and his glasses sat at the tip of his long, thin nose through which he could see dark, beady eyes. “Yeah…I want this letter to be delivered to my wife…she’s staying here in case you’re wondering. Her name is Keriann Kodish…think you can deliver this for me or is that too much for you?” Haden said, probably going a bit overboard but when someone approached him and judged him on how he was dressed, well, he got offended, plain and simple.
“I…yes sir. At once.” The porter said, taking the envelope before going off.
Haden watched as the porter disappeared behind some door and stood there, hoping he didn’t piss the old man off enough to have his letter thrown down the garbage disposal…that would have been a bit of a stick in his machinery of a plan but if that failed, he could always send a text…but text messages were so impersonal, too impersonal actually. A sigh escaped him as he put together the fact that he was in the same hotel as his soon to be wife and turning away back toward the doors instead of racing up to her room to do…well, a whole bunch of non-g rated stuff. Sad…and painful.
One Hour Earlier…
Haden sat in his hotel room across town, sitting in just a towel while staring at the suite that hung on the back of his closed room door. It was a nice suite…very nice actually. To think this was what he was going to wear to an engagement party…what the hell was he going to find to wear to his wedding…nothing! He would have to get a one of a kind suite tailored up for him and his groom’s men…whom he hadn’t given much thought on choosing. Hmm…who? Yeah, he’d get to that when the time came, but for now, he was going to show his fiancé the time of her life tonight. Getting to his feet and stripping off the towel, he slipped into his underclothes and within minutes, he was standing in front of the bathroom mirror, looking at his top off, scrutinizing as best he could, fixing here and there before he was just settled with it all. He moved back into his room, slapped on his watch and gave himself another look. Not to be self-cantered or anything, but he could see what others admired when they say him in the magazines or wherever…it was interesting to finally see, but not so interesting as to distract him for so long.
Once he was done, he headed downstairs and got into his car which was chauffer driven just for the night and dialled the hotel from the comforts of the back seat.
Hello, The Empirium Hotel Resort and Casino, how may I help you?
“Yes hello…I’d like you to send another message to Ms. Keriann Kodish…tell her that a limo is going to pick her up at 7pm so that she can arrive fifteen minutes early…tell her…tell her it’s important that she not be late.” He said, hanging the phone up while sporting a smile one could consider stupid but he was in love and he was romancing his bride, what else was to be expected.
“So where to sir?” The chauffeur asked once he was sure it was best to ask.
“Oh um, sorry, the Athais Restaurant on The Strip please.” He said before sitting back. Then the urge came, that urge that forced him to reach into his pocket and pulled out that black ring box and that smile came right back on his face again. This evening was going to be perfect; he was going to make it so. The car parked by his restaurant just after 7:30pm and he walked in and he had to stop at the entrance and look...if you weren't careful, the way this place was set up would make your mind run wild with imagination and the place looked as if it was lit up by true stars. "She'll love it." He said to the empty entry.
