An Interview with Jasmine Rice [/font][/center]
Hello Ms. Rice. How are you?
I am great. I am glad to be here.
Well, We and the entire world is wondering, how does it feel to be where you are today?
Well, I must admit, it feels good. Real Good. [laugh] You know, I never imagined ever being here, and who would've thought a woman like me would be here taking an interview from a magazine. But I am so privileged and proud.
What do you have to say to those that think you only made it this far because you are woman?
Well, I am a believer that there will always be critics. There will always be people out there who would say your victory was won only because of this this and this. But I honestly think that we need to move beyond this point now where we see gender and color and come to a place where we see Americans. I think I made it where I am because I have an unique American story that relates to the middle class and those who were left out of government. Yes, I am a woman, a proud woman. A proud Black Woman. But am I running to be a Black Woman President? No! I am running to be The President!
Do you think you will win?
[laugh] Well. I would hope I stand a chance.
What about a first husband, or first man. Can we expect one in the White House should you win?
[laughter] I like to keep my options open.
You are becoming a fashion icon. Where did you get this sense of style?
Well, you know I read through all the magazines and one day said, Hey I can be like that! No, I'm Kidding [laugh] I really don't think I dress that well. My advisers constantly tease me about my outfits and my close friends can still remember jokes, I'm sure, about my bad sense of style. I certainly appreciate that my style is in now! [laugh]
Recently you were the Editor-in-Chief of On the Record and you left without much notice. Why?
Well, you know, I think we all have an obligation to serve. I think that my time at OTR was successful and I put my heart into it. But I also knew that I wouldn't be able to manage that and run for the Presidency at the same time. I think we all should listen to that inner voice, that inner nudge that tells us we can do more. I believe we all are called for bigger and better things. I loved OTR! I love the staff and I am in contact with all of them still. I certainly support the new Editor-in-Chief and know that the Newspaper will have a long legacy!
What is your opinion on the current system of Health Care in America?
We are one of the biggest and richest countries in the world. I think that our Health Care system needs to exemplify that. I think that it needs to be quality and affordable care for all. I think for far too long we have been looking to big companies to support the little man. I think it is time for everyone to support each other and as President I am willing to ensure that everyone is covered. It is a right, a Human Right!
What is your number one priority in the White House?
Wow. That's a tough question because there is so much to be done. I am committed to a life of service and so I would like to see Military families treated better and elevated. The men and women in uniform that fights passionately for our country needs us, and as President I will answer their call. I think we need a reform in our Defense systems and a new plan should an attack come to our country. National Defense is key to our country's success. But at the same time I think we need to ensure that every man knows that we are here to pick them up and support them. No, I am not looking for a government that would get involved in every situation that could arise, I am looking for a government that would make provisions available for every situation that could arise. We are Americans, a country that has a long history who had to fight for their own rights. I think people are fighting for their rights now and we are ignoring their cries. As President I will ensure that we ignore no one. A Government that says to every person, come and enjoy this land of the free and home of the brave.
Any Choice for Veep?
[laughs] That time would soon arise.
Any final thoughts?
It was nice being here and thanks for making this a nice and relaxing conversation! It was good talking to you Jasmine. We really wish you all the success.
Thank You.
