The Hollywood Reporter: What made you decide to bring back such an Well Known, and liked Show?
Max: Well to me, this show was something I looked forward too. Playing the characters, and it's just a special part of my life. I think that it's great characters, You've got 11 seasons to work with for ideas, and I mean---Who Doesn't Wanna see this again?
THR: How did you create the new spin?
Max: Well for me, the one thing I wanted to stay true too was the essence of the show. It's all about finding yourself, and sticking up for what you believe in. I think the beauty of it was that, it started off as one thing, but morphed into a completely different creature in terms of focus. I'm not looking to piss off anybody, but I am going to put my own spin on it, and change up some of the mythology.
THR: What are your major influences when it comes to writing this spin?
Max: Very good question, besides the actual 11 seasons, I'm a huge 80's--90's fan, so stuff like The Lost Boys, The Craft, Buffy---They all have these elements of Gore, Romance and Comedy.
That's Definantly the blueprint in terms of direction.
THR: Are you prepared for the comparisons between shows like The Secret Circle, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural...
Max: You know, we all know those shows are very popular and all, great writers, but one thing that will set us away from all of that is the laugh at yourself humor. Most shows are so Grimm, and they lack the humor aspect so I think that's definitely something the audience will be suprised about.
THR: Who from the original show can we be prepared to see?
Max: Come on now, I will say that there are certain characters that this show has to have...when going into production, I had to basically strip a lot of characters, it's just impossible to fit that big of an assemble, but I think fans will be happy with the main cast, and hey, NEVER Say NEVER on some returning favourites or hints.
THR: How risqué will the show be considering its 10 p.m. slot?
Max: It's definantly edgy, but I wouldn't say it's going to go "True Blood" graphic, we'll put it at that haha. My main concern when coming up with the idea was Would I be entertained? Would the viewers reading it enjoy it, and for an hour be able to just enjoy being with these charcthers who they have so much knowledge of beforehand.
THR: How do you handle the histories already set for Charcthers in your new show?
Max: Like anything, some things will be modified, some backstories maybe changed, but the heart of the character, the way they made you feel, and just the overall epicness will stay intact, but yes---I'm staying as true as allowed to the backstories.
